My Blog

I spent 18 months as the Clear Lake and Bay Area blogger for the Houston Chronicle, covering local news and events, as well as human interest and business stories.

If there's one thing I've learned it's that life isn't divided into compartments. Therefore, my blog topics will include everything and anything I can think of. But knowing me, posts will be heavy on writing, cycling, reading, food, education, parenting, community, nature, human behavior and relationships.

Although I write for a living, I don't consider myself an expert-and this is good because it frees me to remain a learner for the rest of my life.

I have a degree in communication and had the privilege of experienced, well-regarded teachers. And while this is a good place to start, I know that a good writer continually works at their craft. I've learned that an active, engaged outer life and a vivid, curious inner one enhance good writing. Dozens of writers have recommended reading good writing, and I've taken their advice. Mostly because I love reading - I've been an avid reader all my life.

What's a Blog?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A blog (a contraction of the term "web log") is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (artlog), photographs (photoblog), sketches (sketchblog), videos (vlog), music (MP3 blog), and audio (podcasting). Micro-blogging is another type of blogging, featuring very short posts.
